Xuan Yue Gate was built during the Ming Dynasty in 1552 as part of a complex of five buildings made of stone. Zhi Shi Xuan Wu, which is written in the middle tablet was the name of Wudang Mountain during the reign of Emperor Jia Jing. Xuan is a reference to Daoism, but also refers to the god of the north known as Zhen Wu. You are greeted by the gate as you ascend to Wudang Mountain.
